There are several different options available for the treatment of depression it includes medication, counseling and exercise.
The medication commonly used are ssri include Prozac zoloft Paxil (paroxetine) although there are many other classes of medications have been made available.. Recent studies suggest that exercise help in alleviating the symptoms of depression. Counseling sessions are also helpful.

In brief: Many options

Sometimes therapy, sometimes medication, sometimes both.
The important thing is to let your doctor know what is going on and (s)he can decide iff (s)he can help you or refer ylj to a psychiatrist.
