Energy is used digesting, absorbing & operating our brain to control & constantly remodel our body. Thus even fasting uses energy & body wt. ?es. Additionally, building/using muscle tissue burns a lot more energy than storing it in fat tissue. Thus ?ing muscle mass, using/moving muscles requires/burns more energy. Wt. balance of mass in/out

Keep in mind that calories & body weight, gain/loss, are based on associations observed/promoted by various individuals. However, only associations, Not Direct Causation. Thus counting calories is inherently not reliably related in any reliable way to weight gain/loss. If animals are more physically active, this activity tends to be associated with ↑ed loss of atoms (mass), but many variables.
