In brief: It's difficult

Some dark circles appear so due to excess or drooping lid skin.
This is often treated with surgery. Occasionally, fillers can be placed in the area around the lids to diminish the appearance of the bags. If you have only the dark circles, it is difficult to treat. Cosmetics can conceal it, and laser procedures are marginally helpful. An oculoplastic surgeon can give you an idea of your options.

In brief: Reduce swelling!

Ice packs for 10 minutes every morning can be helpful in reducing the swelling and discoloration of the eyelids.
Also, not sleeping face down and elevating the head is helpful as well. Rubbing the eyes should be avoided as the fragile capillaries in the eyelids can leak fluid if mechanical pressure is applied to them.
