Sore throat remedy. Gargle with salt water. Drink tea with honey. Suck on popsicles. Take something to relieve pain like Acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Lots of chicken soup and tlc. Hope you feel better soon.
Sore throat. For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician ; get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.
Multiple ways. I agree with dr. Fowler's ideas about throat cultures and salt water -- and am adding a few. Slippery elm lozenges can help, such as thayer's -- or also this can be combined with elderberry ; zinc in other preparations. It can be found in throat comfort tea. Licorice lozenges also -- licorice (dgl if hypertension is a worry) is soothing to mucus membranes. Sage throat spray can be helpful too.
My throat is very sore and hurts to swallow. My tonsils are inflamed. Honey helps and cough drops don't. What can I do to get rid of my sore throat?
Might be strep. Throat, so get to a doctor as soon as possible, because you might need to take antibiotics. If you have trouble opening your mouth, it might mean that you have an abscess, a real emergency.
Sore throat. Almost half of all sore throats are viral, and therefore little in the way of antibiotics. Sometimes early intervention with antivirals (tamiflu) interrupts the course of true influenza, but this is the exception, not the rule. Most viral disease must run its course. For the garden variety sore throat, lozenges, inspiration of moist mentholated steam vapor, rest, and plenty of fluids helps.
Depends on cause. Viral sore throats last a couple days, infectious sore throat may not get better until the infection is treated, sore throat from cancer lasts until treated. For first few days try cepacol lozenge, throatcoat tea with honey, tylenol (acetaminophen) or advil, an Aspirin dissolved in a glass of water which is gargled.
