In brief: Hydrate

Drink plenty of water. Do you sleep with mouth open, or have sleep apnea?

In brief: Dehydration?

This could be due to not getting enough fluids.
You may have reduced serous salivary flow as well. Have you changed toothpastes or mouthwashes recently? That could be causing your saliva to become more sticky and mucosy. Cold weather may also be a factor. One way to rule out a saliva issue is to try and eat some saltine crackers and swallow without the aid of water.
