In brief: Losing weight

Paradoxically the best way to lose weight is to build muscle.
Each pound of muscle you put on with resistance muscle training burns 75 calories a day versus only the calories for each pound of fat.

In brief: Low-carb diet

One of the defining features of pcos is that it takes higher levels of Insulin to keep the sugar(glucose) level in your blood normal.
This high Insulin level can tend to make you feel hungry soon after eating. If you eat fewer carbs (sugar/starch) it takes less Insulin to get your sugar back to normal after a meal, and you'll feel less hungry between meals. Agree w/ muscle building exercise too.

smaller amounts of food at your meals, avoid skipping meals and a mid morning and afternoon snack can help.

In brief: Low Carb High Fat

Read, "why we get fat and what to do about it" taubes.
Low carb high fat is the best diet for humans and results in dramatic persistent weight loss, decreased blood pressure, decreased cholesterol (yes this is true), decreased blood sugar and is very effective for pcos in women and dramatically lowers the risk of heart disease and stroke. We have used this for 8 yrs for patients with great succe.

In brief: Energy balance

There's a lot we just don't understand about weight gain and loss.
We do know, however, that weight loss is dependent upon burning up more calories than we eat. Likewise weight gain is what happens when more calories are taken in than are burned off. It is almost never easy, but eating fewer calories and getting more exercise are key to weight loss.

In brief: The normal way

Watching calories always helps.
Hopefully, you are using metformin which has a dual benefit of controlling Insulin resistance and promoting weight loss.

Weight loss usually is much less with the more expensive extended release metformin.

In brief: Plan and organize

The most successful weight loss regimen use planning of meals, tracking what you eat.
. The more thought you put into to the more likely you are to be successful.

In brief: Low carbs and exerci

The combination of lowering your carb intake to <25% of your plate and exercising 30min x 5-6 days per week works to keep your metabolism up while keeping the nutrient storage down.

In brief: Eliminate simple carbs

Polycystic ovary syndrome involves Insulin resistance.
Simple carbohydrates are not metabolize appropriately and are quickly stored in fats. Also Insulin levels are extremely elevated when simple sugars are consumed which in turn elevate male hormones. This becomes a vicious cycle.

In brief: Low glycemic index diet

Find a glycemic index.
If you eat items that are low in the glycemic index you will lose weight. Try to stay away from simple sugars such as white flour products.

In brief: Balance

After ruling out and normalizing metabolic factors related to weight gain (thyroid, Insulin resistance, etc.
) creating a calorie imbalance towards burning more calories than you take in will generate weight loss. It takes approximately 8000kcal to burn 1 kg. The regulation of weight is very complex hormonally. Many have proposed a hormonal basis for various diets but the data is limited.

In brief: Low carb diet

Pcos is caused by high estrogen (e2)combined with high Insulin which then transforms e2 into testosterone.
Excess carbs can elevate both Insulin (via stimulation of pancreas) and e2 (via competitive inhibition of glucoronidase enzyme) a low carb diet reduces both Insulin & e2 thus positively impacting this metabolic disease. Avoid fried foods, veg oils, soy.
