Increased blood flow to theses "extremity areas" is likely the cause.
As long as there is no pain, this is natural (to an extent) so to keep these areas from loosing blood flow (cold can do this) and thus decreasing oxygen to the tissues, where, if without, tissues metabolism slows and if it stops, tissues can die. His response may be slightly exaggerated but, without pain, i would not worry.
