In brief: Anti-seizure med
Tegratol is used for treatment of seizures but also has a specific use for the treatment of trigeminal neuralgia (an extremely severe type of facial pain).
There are many side effects and precautions so you should learn as much as you can about the drug before taking it.

In brief: Older anticonvulsant
Tegretol is an anticonvulsant that is metabolized by the liver that is used for event related (partial) epilepsy.
The drug is given orally and must be titrated to its therapeutic dose. The drug's level must be monitored to maintain efficacy and reduce side effects. There are significant side effects associated with tegretol, some dose dependant others are idiosyncratic. Should not stop abruptly.
