Forget the ER doc. Shame on the ER doc for not knowing you're a non-smoker. Pain in that location which radiates to the back is really more in the abdomen than chest. 2 concerns I would have are: pancreatitis and peptic ulcer. You need further eval. Possibly-don't panic. At 24 you are young for concern, but any chest pain, espec in a smoker, should be eval at least clinically. Simply more hx could poss allow for a more definitive answer.Some people do experience a worsening of sx's shortly after quitting smoking as the lungs start to clear some of the toxins.
