In brief: Insulin
Insulin is necessary to allow the sugars in your blood to enter cells.
If you don't have enough insulin, sugars will be high. Two sources of sugar in the body: from food (many sources in food are snuck in u may not notice- like ketchup, bbq sauce) and from the liver (makes sugar to keep our cells energized when we are not eating). So high bg = not enuf insulin, sneaky carbs, and liver.

In brief: Dehydration?
If your sugar is over 200, you are likely to be dehydrated.
Drinking water can help correct both the dehydration, and the high blood sugar. Light exercise can also help. If your sugar stays high despite good diet and exercise, talk to doctor to discuss what treatment options might be best for you.

In brief: Acidosis
You are burning fat to make sugar.
The by product of which is lactic acid. Lactic acid impairs your cells ability to take in sugar for energy, hence the sugar stats in the bloodstream.
