I have a previous back injury, lower. Recently I have gained some weight and both heels of my feet are going numb could these be related?

In brief: Maybe

Depends on the nature of the injury.
If it narrowed the space for the nerves from your back to your feet, they may be related. Weight gain may be associated with increased fat around the nerves, also irritating them. If the weight gain is associated with diabetes, the diabetes can cause problems with nerves in the feet unrelated to the back.
