I'm on second month of orthocyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) and I have elevated prolactin (57). How can I distinguish between side effects of bc pill and elevated prolactin?
Different effects. Effect of hyperprolactinemia is mainly galactorrhea (nipple discharge), irregular menses. One may have headaches or visual symptoms if hyperprolactinemia due to pituitary tumor of significant size. Common side effects of birth control pills are nausea, breakthrough vaginal bleeding (usually resolves after being the pill for a few months), breast tenderness, mood swings, headaches.
Trouble sleeping, night sweats are my two biggest complaints. On 2nd month of orthocyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate). Elevated prolactin (57). Is elevated prolactin cause?
Not related. Certain drugs, other than what your on, can elevate prolactin, and pituitary tumors, either micro or macro-ademonas can do this.Cabergoline will lower this at initial doeses of 0.5mg two times per week, and proably after several months, one times per week. Prolactin elevations can cause loss of menses or scant periods. They are also associated with increased depression, decreased libido, & pain! Read more...
My prolactin is 57.2 the only thing I take is orthocyclen, (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) could it be the cause of the elevated prolactin? I also get very stressed before blood test
Does being on orthocyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate) increase my prolactin and cortisol? Can those elevated levels go back to normal all on thier own, with no meds?
Well, make sure. You are in contact with an endocrinologist. There are workups that need to be done. It's not from the ocp though. F/u with your doc. Cortisol fluctuates so it matters when it was drawn and how, prolactin, if elevated, needs to be discussed with ur doc. I assume they drew them for a reason. Good luc. Read more...
I need a bc pill that causes less water retention, is low androgenic and is also a monophasic. Is ortho cept a good choice for me? On orthocyclen (ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate).
Likely fine. As long as you are not a smoker, just about any pill should be ok for you. But, you have to simply try the new one. Unfortunately there is no way to predict which pill you will do better with than others. Ask your obgyn for samples (orthocept (ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel) and cyclen aren't sampled to our offices anymore) good luck. Read more...
