A typical migraine is characterized by throbbing pain on one side of the head, associated with nausea and sensitivity to light, worse with activity and better with rest. They are sometimes, but not always, preceded by an aura (e.g. Flashing lights in the vision). Some migraines are accompanied by focal symptoms and look very much like a stroke.
