In brief: Age-ist stereotyping
Menopause is the end of periods (for 1 yr) due to decline in functioning of the ovaries over many years.
Around then other symptoms may occur due to disease, 'passage of time' or changes in endocrine glands, eg, thyroid. They're not reasons to mock, treat women poorly at home or on the job. Seeing gyn provider is a good start to sort out what is occurring and what to do to improve, maintain health.

In brief: Hot flashes are one
Most common are hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, insomnia and irritability.
Some women have significant symptoms before the periods stop, some after, some before and after and some not at all.We do know that healthy lifestyle plays a big role and therefore, eating right, attaining a healthy weight, exercising, getting adequate sleep, reducing stress and not smoking or drinking is helpful.

In brief: Hot and bothered
The main symptoms in the minus category: hot flushes, irritability, difficulty sleeping, and vaginal dryness.
On the plus side: no more periods, no chance of getting pregnant, and many women with a history of chronic headaches or migraines find relief from them. Along those lines, however, there is a caution... The second highest age group for unintended pregnancy: women nearing menopausal age.

In brief: Ch-ch-ch-changes
As david bowie once sang.
Changed periods: lighter, less frequent (sometimes heavier, more frequent temporarily). Changed temperature: hot flashes. Changed moods & memory: more PMS (grumpy, irritable, blue), harder to multi-task, brain fog. We all go thru menopause differently: from tiny to huge changes. Depending on how hard this is for you, lots of choices to ease your transition.
