In brief: See your doctor
Persistent constipation should be evaluated first by your primary doctor. Low thyroid, various medications, and various nutritional issues should be assessed.
Next you need a colonoscopy. If all this is normal, physiology testing to see why you are constipated is appropriate.

In brief: See below.
If you've already seen your doctor to make sure nothing else is causing constipation, a high fiber diet is the most important treatment.
Lots of fresh fruits and veggies, salads, and high fiber grains, along with lots of water, helps treat and prevent constipation, so stick with this always. Take benefiber daily, and ask your doctor if you should use MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) daily as well.
