In brief: Floaters

Any change in floaters or new floaters or associated symptoms such as flashes or loss of vision require a full dilated exam by an eyemd to be sure there are no retinal tears or detachment.

In brief: Vitreous floaters

The shadows that vitreous floaters cast will change shapes depending on their position in the vitreous gel.
If the floaters have been there in the past then i wouldn't be concerned. If you now see flashing lights or a grey shadow in your peripheral vision then you need to have your eyes examined.
