In brief: Depends

There are a lot of factors that can prolongue an episode of bronchitis.
If you are healthy and have no underlying lung disease the symptoms usually start to lessen after about 4 days and may be gone in 7-10 days. However the symptoms can linger longer if you smoke, are elderly, have asthma or COPD etc.

In brief: Depends...

Acute bronchitis typically lasts for a few days to a week or 2 while chronic bronchitis is life-long with no cure.
Meds will control symptoms in chronic bronchitis but there is no cure. Smoking cessation is important to decrease inflammation. Good luck!
