Pros & cons of prednisone for bronchitis? (i have asthma)

Quick relief. Without steroids, it will take longer to recover, steroids are not always needed. Cons of a short course are limited but include insomnia and increased blood sugar. Long term use is more likely to cause problems.
+ and - Bronchitis can trigger an asthma exacerbation, necessitating prednisone, assuming you are already on inhaled steroids and bronchodilators. The cons are side effects, short term acid reflux, increased appetite, long term are too many to list. But if you must have it, it helps you breathe and stop the asthma in its tracks.

Doubtful. The "active" ingredient in Mucinex (guaifenesin) is guaiafenisin. It has been hawked by drug huxters as an expectorant for for over 50 years-- something wonderful for loosening up phlegm so you can cough it up from your congested lungs. When the AMA Drug Evaluations was published in 1980, pharm companies were aghast, because it evaluated which drugs worked best. This one was "at least as good as a placebo". Read more...

On prednisone. I take glipizide ER 5 Xs 2/day. If I take prednisone first, then the glip, will it combat the roid spike?? Diabetic, asthma bronchitis?

Glipizide, prednison. Hi. Glipizide is a very weak diabetes drug. If you were well controlled with glipizide monotherapy prior to starting prednisone, the glipizide will be unlikely to keep you controlled on prednisone; if you weren't well controlled to begin with, then there's not a chance. Is the prednisone a short burst and taper? If so, you may weather it. If it's chronic prednisone, plan on other diabetes meds. Read more...

Have pneumonia asthma bronchitis on prednisone 40mgx5 levoflaxcin500x7 is ok to take benedryl, cough supp and expectorant to manage severe coughing?

Probably OK but.. If your cough is caused by uncontrolled asthma, then you need to get the asthma under control instead of relying on cough medicine to relieve the symptoms. On the other hand, if your lung function is reasonably good and the cough is too bothersome, i see no harm in taking a cough suppressant for a few days. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor about these issues. Read more...
