In brief: Helped, not cured
Dermographia or dermatographia is usually associated with hives and can be very itchy.
This is due to mast cells in the skin releasing a chemical called histamine. Triggers can be things like pressure, scratching, heat, or cold. It can be associated with allergic hives or chronic non-allergic hives. Since histamine is involved, taking antihistamines can help. May take daily for chronic hives.

In brief: Antihistamines
Usually dermatographism is a type of hive.
Antihistamines are usually effective. I usually recommend a non sedating antihistamine such as Loratadine or fexofenadine, or a low sedating antihistamine such as cetirizine. Most of the time the cause is not known and will usually clear over time.
