For as long as I can remember, I've gotten an upset stomach and heartburn no matter what I eat. What should I start asking my pcp?

In brief: GERD /Low acid diet
Write a journal with the food or medicines that exacerbate your symptoms.
Avoid those. Not pregnant individuals may get benefit from antacids, h blockers like zantac, (ranitidine) pepcid, tagamet at the right dosis or stronger meds likes Omeprazole or other ppis. It is likely you will need at least an upper GI radiologic study or better an upper endoscopy to rule out ulcers, hiatus hernia.

Need a GI evaluation. Patients with such symptoms "for as I long as I can remember" are at increased risk for erosions in the esophagus, ulcers of the stomach or duodenum, or precancerous changes of Barrett's esophagus. Xray studies cannot diagnose Barrett's , may miss erosions, etc. Barrett's needs biopsy, biopsy can check for H pylori (can cause ulcer). Stool/breath tests for H pylori also
