My mom is experiencing pain in her left wrist. She says it hurts when she uses it to carry something heavier than 1 pound. What should she do?

In brief: Agree w/ Dr Abe

Consider splint or ace wrap for support while waiting to be seen.

In brief: Stop carrying

Anything heavier than 1 pound.
Is she left-handed? If so, it is likely that she has been carrying things with her left hand, which could have caused it. Or does she have history of arthritis or repetitive use involving the left wrist. Did she ever injure her left wrist? If she is having a severe pain, she should be seen by a doctor. Until then, try rest, ice/heat, anti-inflammatory or pain meds.
