In brief: Needs to be treated

If your thyroid is overactive, it needs to be treated.
Common symptoms include nervousness, tremor, sweating, palpitations, rapid heart rate. You may have an enlarged thyroid. Untreated, these symptoms can be either annoying, or truly dangerous, especially to the heart. Treatment includes medications, possibly surgery or radioactive iodine. You may need to see an endocrinologist.
