In brief: Many things

There are many things this could be, both benign and infectious.
This is a discussion best had face to face with a physician rather than online, so that specifics can be asked.

In brief: Vaginitis/osis

White thick discharge from the vaginal area is typical but not unique for fungal/yeast infection.
If the patient is diabetic, they do not play fair symptoms wise, so i try and rule out other non fungal causes.

In brief: Yeast infection

This sounds like a vaginal yeast infection.
They are typically caused by an organism called candida albicans. Over the counter treatment is with anti-fungal medications such as Nystatin or miconazole.Creams. Oral Diflucan (fluconazole) is available by prescription only.
