In brief: Ok to wait a day...

A previously well toddler who acts "perfectly normally" but just has a 103 fever can be watched at home, on tylenol (acetaminophen) or motrin, to see what happens overnight (especially since today is christmas).
Sometimes the cause is roseola virus, which gives a few days of fever, followed by a rash. The child can go to the E.R. If he starts acting sickly today, and/or parents can call the doctor for advice.

In brief: Hydrate, hydrate...

Many viral infections act just like this.
.. As long as child is playful, eating and drinking and not "ill"- hydrate, treat fever if it makes child feel bad and watch! the body fighting off simple viral infections actually strengthens the imminent system! just watch for warning signs off more serious problem. There is no medication to stop or shorten these viral syndromes ( 2-5 days). :).
