In brief: Lose weight, see Dr.
A person with mild fatty liver likely has gotten extra fat in most other places in the body, and probably is eating more sugar and plain carbs than he should be.
To start, exercise, weight loss, and a low sugar and low carbs diet will help. He should work with his primary care doctor to see if he needs medication or further testing, as there can be other problems, such as high cholesterol.

If you have fatty liver deposition and you are overweight that is one option.

In brief: Weight loss
Needs further exam including liver ultrasound and labs.
But according to new england journal of medicine 800iu of vitamin E a day for 1year can help. Overall if you are overweight this is the first thing to change.

In brief: It depends on cause
If not alcohol related, mild fatty liver will generally not cause liver symptoms or progress to severe liver problems.
The most likely cause is Insulin resistance. If so, the best option is to loose weight.. Diabetes and heart disease are not caused by fatty liver but caused by the same process that causes fatty liver. Weight loss will prevent these complications.
