In brief: Many

Liver enzymes are from the inside of the cells in the liver, and theur presence in excess indicates too many liver cells are dying, dimping their contents into the blood.
Several causes: too much tylenol, (acetaminophen) alcohol, ibuprofen, and many prescription drugs. Gall stones lodged in the tract from the liver to the intestine, a tumor in that tract or the liver itself, an infection like hepatitis or mono.
