In brief: See an ENT

Sudden hearing loss is an ENT emergency.
It could be something as simple as ear wax or it could be nerve damage related to a viral infection. There is a two week window to treat with steroids/anti-virals if there is any expected recovery if it is sudden nerve damage.

In brief: Great concern

Out of 100 patients who i see emergently for "sudden hearing loss" most have either an outer ear cause (wax) or a middle ear cause (fluid).
The rest have true inner ear loss leading to partial or complete deafness. Diagnosed and treated early (within 1 to 3 days) most cases improve significantly. Untreated, a few improve but rarely back to normal. See an ENT right away, it is an emergency.

In brief: See ENT Immediately

If you have a sudden hearing loss, it is imperative that you see an ENT doctor immediately.
The risk is too great due to the possible causes. Get seen!

In brief: Many causes

But you need to see your doctor .
It could be as simple as ear wax or plugged eudtacian tubes from a cold. It also could be something more serious but your doctor will help you sort that out.
