Can the ear get infected if you take the earring out early and don't put it back in?

In brief: Ear pierce infection

Just because you take out the earring won't make you more prone to infection.
If you take it out and it has not healed yet with a new lining of skin that grows from the front of the earlobe to the back, then the hole will seal shut. If you want this to happen and you do take out the earring, then make sure you continue to clean the wound as was prescribed and seek attention for redness and pain.

In brief: Not usually

If you take the post out early the hole may close up, but there should not be any increased risk of infection if you keep it clean.
