In brief: Depression

There is no " best medicine" in this matter. Your doctor would work on finding your " ideal fit" .
Combination of antidepressants with psychotherapy was found to be most efficient for treatment of depression, proven by multiple clninca, studies. The bottom line - there is no " magic wand" , do not wait, see a psychiatrist to get help.

In brief: Individualize

Antidepressant medicines are basically of three types, ssri, snri and other. In experimental trials, none is proved better than the others.
In clinical practice, we tailor the drug according to the patient's symptoms. Generally speaking, a lethargic depression will benefit from an activating drug like the non ssri wellbutrin (bupropion). Patients with anxiety, will benefit from an ssri or snri like prozac.

In brief: No one best

All current antidepressants work equally well-based on population studies.
Any given individual may do better on one drug than another, depending on symptoms of depression, other meds she may be taking, and side effect profile. Best determined by your doctor.

In brief: Don't worry,Be Happy

Depressive disorders effect millions of people every year. There are a variety of treatment options available including medications so as to which one is right for you is difficult to say without knowing you/your medical history.
My advise is to see you doctor; and try to maintain a positive outlook; and be happy! lean on your support system a little; that is what they're there for. Good luck.
