In brief: Tests ovary reserves

Anti-mullerian hormone or factor is a blood test done on women over the age of 35 to assess how the ovaries are working.
It can be done any time in the cycle and even while on birth control pills. It is felt to show how many eggs are left to develop in a woman's ovaries. A low level indicates a lower probability of success in trying to get pregnant.

In brief: Ovarian reserve

Amh is secreted by the follicles destined to ovulate in the next 1-2 months, this egg number reflects your ovarian reserve and it correlates with amh.
These preantral follicles are recruited regardless of the hormonal environment and thus amh can be drawn at any point of the cycle or even on ocps. Amh predicts quantity, not quality of eggs and thus it helps us predict response to fertility drugs.
