In brief: Yeast or fungal

Fungus or yeast infections are common in fold.
This will easily recur. The best option isto clean area with dilute vinegar one teaspoon in a glass of water, followed by mica tin cream and finally diaper paste to decrease wetness and separate skin. You must deal with underlying weight issue with professional help.

In brief: Bacterial=cellulitis

Bacterial infection of skin manifesting as spreading red area is cellulitis, a serious infection needing prompt treatment with antibiotics.
If fever or large area affected, antibiotics IV (by vein) in hospital sometimes is needed. Fungal/yeast infection of the skin can occur in folds, because these organisms grow well in a warm, damp, dark area. Topical Nystatin helps, particularly in powder form.

Best not to self-diagnose; not worth being wrong. There are many other causes of rashes, and your primary care physician needs to evaluate you for this. Nystatin is by prescription.

Please keep in mind that proper diagnosis requires a full history, knowledge of background medical issues, a physical exam, and if needed then confirmatory tests. It is for this reason that our Terms of Use state that we are here for info only, and that "Content and Services are not a substitute for medical advice from your physician." I have not seen success with the use of OTC remedies.
