In brief: Exercise

Most important in any weight loss program, assuming one is overweight, is consistent frequent exercise.
Then comes eating in a healthy manner (low saturated fat, low processed foods, low simple carbs, no fast foods, and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables).

For long term success and not having your teen rebel against you, she must also have buy in-see the need for change. Making it a family lifestyle change will help everyone's health and not make her feel as if she's singled out. Most of support, not nag.

In brief: Adolescent Dieting

Consistent weight loss is not easy for anyone, young or old.
You must first realize that 1 lb per week is a safe and predictable rate of loss if you consume 3, 500 fewer calories (500/day) in a week. Faster loss is not sustainable and can have unwanted side effects. Motivation comes from within and positive results are a powerful motivator. Reinforce good habits, modify bad habits and be happy!
