In brief: "foreigner"

Lymph nodes are processing centers for the immune system that are designed to trap anything that is "foreign" in our bodies such as bacteria, viruses, or cancer cells.
Therefore, we search for any of these possibilities, which may include tests such as a mammogram, ultrasound, and/or mri. Ultimately, if our concern is high, a nonsurgical lymph node biopsy may be performed.

In brief: Infection most commo

Infection is the most common cause of an enlarged lymph node in any location.
If it has been present less than two to four weeks then keep an eye on it. If swelling and redness is severe then you may need antibiotics to clear. If the lymph node is present more than four weeks then see your physician to make sure more serious things are not present. Get your mammogram done also.
