In brief: Possible

There are different causes and types of rta.
Vitamin d deficiency may cause it, different meds and toxins can do it, certain diseases (lupus, sjogren syndrome) may do it and finally there are some genetic causes. As you see, some of those are reversible and curable, while others (lupus, hereditary) are not, so RTA can only improve as long as the underlying cause is.

In brief: RTA

RTA is an condition where your kidneys don't get rid of 'acid' gained from diet and metabolism and or the kidneys are losing bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) in the urine.
There are three types proximal distal and finally type IV. RTA once diagnosed is controlled but not cured. What type were you diagnosed and what is the cause. Take care and best of luck. Can be nerve racking.
