In brief: See your doctor 1st

Brittle nails can be due to some very treatable medical conditions.
Hormonal issues, such as a thyroid disorders, can lead to brittle nails. Discuss this with your family doctor or dermatologist.

In brief: Brittle nails

Brittle nails can be related to dietary factors, abusive treatment of the nails, and some chemical reactions from believe it or not, nail hardeners! some nail products contain chemicals such as formaldehyde to make the nail stronger but they might end up more brittle, and some people even develop contact dermatitis to their nail polish or clear lacquers or nail hardeners.
