In brief: See below

Speak to your dental provider about your level of comfort, everything from local anaesthesia to anaesthesia placed around the tooth (Oraquix) to topical is available.
Many patients are fine with no numbing agent. The choice and number of quadrants performed in one sitting is up to you.

In brief: Dental Scaling

With the use of Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen analgesia also known as Sweet air or Laughing Gas, most patients are completely comfortable for the procedures.
Some do require local anesthesia and a few feel absolutely no pain even with nothing. It depends mostly on a patients pain threshold.

In brief: Occasionally

Due to each person's individual tolerance for discomfort, what is uncomfortable or painful to one person is often tolerable to another person.
The beauty of dentistry is that dentists are able to handle it all, as we can always use local anesthetic "novocaine" if you need it. Talk to you dentist about this prior to your appointment.
