They need people around them to talk to them & to keep them doing the things they like to do. In addition staying active mentally & physically, getting restful sleep, & laughing all help to keep spirits high & speed healing. Meditation, positive thinking and the power of prayers also goes a long way.

Maybe positive spirits with both good and bad days is better expectation. Supportive friends and family, exercise as permitted, and spiritual sources are useful. To the extent possible, continue functioning-even if it's at a limited capacity-as much as possible.
