Crestor vs lipitor (atorvastatin). Is one better than the other?

Crestor (rosuvastatin) And Lipitor (atorvastatin) are both effective statin drugs. Crestor is a bit more mg for mg potent than Lipitor (atorvastatin) but the outcomes with both drugs are similar.

Is lescol stronger than lipitor, (atorvastatin) crestor?

No. Lescol is weaker than those two. If your cholesterol level reaches goal, then it probably does not matter which statin you use. But if you require a higher dose, and do not reach goal even with high dose Lescol or other older drugs, then Lipitor (atorvastatin) or Crestor would be preferred. They are more potent. As they are about equally effective, price becomes an issue since Lipitor (atorvastatin) is generic now. Read more...

Can I take a different statin after developing rhabdomyalysis from Lipitor, (atorvastatin) then Crestor?

Its not known. The occurance of rhabdo seems lower than we first thought and aches/pains were called rhabdo when it isn't. BUT, the rhabdo is a combination of the drug GROUP'S effect and genetic susceptibility. I would suspect that if someone had the CK (muscle enzyme) elevation with one... they'll have it with all. Personally, all my pts (3) followed this pattern. BUT, 1-3 days and testing... not huge risk. Read more...

While there may be. Subtle differences, they are each "statins", the gola is optimizing triglyceride and LDL cholesterol. I was on Atorvastatin for 12 years, and switched to Simvastatin when my co-pay went to $125, and i can get generic zocor (simvastatin) for $6.99. The newer the more expensive. Resuvostatin is newer. Show me the difference is worth the price. Read more...
