In brief: Depends on test
With HIV qauntitative RNA pcr (ribonucleic acid polymerase chain reaction) testing, which measures the virus directly in the blood, the infection can be detected within 2 weeks.
Testing for antibodies to the virus sometimes may become positive only after 3 months.

Dr. Seggev is absolutely correct, but if you think that you have been exposed and it is within 36 hours, prophylactic anti-HIV medication is appropriate. You can also be tested earlier than 2 wks and may show positive within a day or two by RNA-PCR.

In brief: 2 weeks
You should be tested right away, then in 2 weeks and again at 2 months.
