In brief: It really hurts

Post-tonsillectomy pain can be quite severe in adults.
Your ENT surgeon should provide you with adequate pain medication. All nsaids (ibuprofen, and others) are contra-indicated due to risk of bleeding. You should also follow a post-tonsillectomy diet. Ask your ENT surgeon for more information.

Tonsillectomy is a 2 week healing process. Homeopathic arnica 30c r 200c post op can reduce bruising and pain. Acupuncture can help a lot to reduce pain and speed healing as well.

I agree with Dr. Franz- acupuncture can be very beneficial.

In brief: Depends

The pain level will depend on your pain tolerance as well as on how uncomplicated the surgery will be.
Usually the pain is moderate in the first day or two and subsequently it starts subsiding. Using food that causes minimal discomfort with swallowing and taking some simple pain relievers (tylenol/ibuprofen, unless contraindicated), may be enough to deal with it.
