Renal insufficiency may improve with intravenous fluids and other medications to a certain point if there is only dehydration.
When the kidney funtion has been progressively(years) bad for some time or when the damage to the kidneys is severe (recent onset) it gets to a point that only kidney transplant (younger patients) or dialysis may prolong life but with high morbidity and mortality.
