Is it possible that there may be internal hemorrhoids that cause blood to appear during defecation?

In brief: Yes

Internal hemorrhoids can cause rectal bleeding.
However, if the patient is over 40, or if local otc treatment is not helpful, then further evaluation by a gastroenterologist should be sought.

No amount of bleeding is normal!! Get a proper evaluation by a specialist, either a gastroenterologist or a Colon and Rectal Surgeon

In brief: Absolutely!

The most common symptom of internal hemorrhoids is bleeding! a diet high in fiber may alleviate the bleeding if you take it consistently.

In brief: Yes but

Unless i see active bleeding from hemorrhoids, i often recommend a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy to look inside the intestines to exclude other potential causes.
This is especially true for people close to or over 50 years old.
