Are there any tips for a person with type 1 insulin dependent diabetes that would like to explore nature?

In brief: Plan ahead

If you mean you'd like to go for long solitary hikes, i'd recommend you carefully pre-emptively titrate your basal Insulin that day (as the activity will lower your sugars), if you hike for hrs, suck on hard candies, and bring your meter- you should check bg every 3-4 hrs.
Bring glucose tablets to treat lows. Also, go with a partner, who knows how to use a glucagon pen in case of a severe low.

A cell phone can help you get help in an emergency, AND help people find you if necessary.

In brief: ?Nature?

By this i presume you mean natural methods of treatment.
Type 1 diabetics do not make Insulin and therefore have to replace it. I do find that the amount of Insulin required can be greatly diminished by reducing the acid intake in the diet; mostly avoiding sodas and beer. This reduces Insulin resistance. Also anything that reduces inflammation helps.
