Ophthalmology

In brief: Brain dysfunction

There is a center in the brain for thyroid function and adjacent is a center which can cause eye bulging (exophthalmos).
The actual cause is not known although treatment is available to quiet down overactive thyroid and deal with the eye bulging. It is more common in women in the middle years.
