Your ob/gyn can explain that to you.
It is safe and effective, but it is not available everywhere and is not considered the standard of care for pregnancy surveillance.

In brief: Your OB/GYN
Nuchal translucency screening is a part of first trimester screening or the first screen.
It is an ultrasound of the skin on the neck of the fetus. How thick this skin is can help us determine the risk that a particular baby has for having chromosome abnormalities like down syndrome. Your OB or midwife will be able to tell you who in your area is qualified to do this test.
