How can you lower cholesterol numbers when a low fat, low cholesterol diet and aerobic exercise don't work?

In brief: Medications

If you are doing all the right things and still have a high cholesterol, you may need cholesterol lowering medications - statins.
These are very effective and generally safe with minimal side effects.

In brief: Medication

If you eat right and exercise routinely but still have high cholesterol, it might be time to start a medication.
Depends on your lipid profle, you can try "natural" supplementation like plant sterols, red yeast rice, fish oils or just start a prescription cholesterol medication like a statin.

Make sure your diet is plant based, avoid dairy too since it is a huge source of animal fat that people do not think about. I use the above natural supplements as well as cholestoff found at local drug stores

In brief: Also

Also, besides "medicine", consider benefits of herbal treatments such as red yeast rice, gugul lipid, fishoil, fiber and niacin.
Though not all well proven in studies, each of these can improve your cholesterol numbers, each in a different way, affecting different parts. I recommend discussing it further with your doctor to find a regimen appropriate and safe for you.
