If I want to stop the Depo-Provera shot due to weight gain, how long will the progesterone hormone be in my system?

Depends on dose! Should be out completely within 3mo! that is why they call it depo-provera! Read more...
Agree but. I agree completely with the first answer, but remember that normal menstruation/cycling may take much longer to resume: although it's unusual, cases of 1 year to even 2 years have been reported. Read more...

I recently switched from Depo-Provera to mirena (levonorgestrel) due to extreme weight gain. When will I begin to lose the added Depo-Provera weight?

No magic. The weight you gain (not all women do) is "real" weight. It is not water weight and will not come off quickly. Luckily you will not experience this with Mirena (levonorgestrel) - a very good choice on your part. Dr. Oz (google on internet) has a very good two week weight loss diet that will get you started in the right direction. It's going to be diet and exercise, difficult kind of work, that will shed the lbs. Read more...

I responded terribly to the Depo-Provera shot. Mood swings, breakthrough bleeding all 3 months, weight gain of 30lbs. Would implanon affect me the same way?

It could. The Progesterone in Implanon is different than the Progesterone in Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) plus it is a lot lower dose. That means you are somewhat less likely to have the side effects you had with Depo-Provera provera. Remember that Implanon can give irregular periods, but is much less likely to bleed for 3 months, or to cause much weight gain, and less likely to give mood swings. Read more...

Weight gain, sore nipples, and at the end of my 3 months for my Depo-Provera shot...possible to be pregnant? I've been on the Depo-Provera for 2 1/2 years.

Yes, Possible. If you are having unprotected sex, pregnancy is possible regardless of your choice of contraception. Although Depo-Provera is an effective means of birth control, no method (pill, patch or condom) other than abstinence is 100% effective. As you may know, there are over-the-counter urine pregnancy tests available. I would suggest discussing this with your OB/GYN or the prescriber of your Depo. Read more...
