..But only if they need it. Some patients have such severe disease that they can't maintain a normal oxygen level. This is when oxygen therapy is helpful. Often we check patient's oxygen levels with an oximeter, a machine that measures the level of oxygen in the bloodstream. Patients qualify for treatment if the level is less than 88%.
