Dr. Michael Blum
Pediatrics
In brief: Yes
Most pediatricians will discourage sex for all our teenage patients.
If a parent or patient (our teenagers) want to discuss birth control, we are pleased that they are concerned about safe sex. Birth control pills may be just one area of discussion to help the teenagers. There are other medical reasons for hormone therapy is girls, including acne and abnormal periods. Talk with their doctor.

If the birth control pills are being used to prevent pregnancy, then a discussion about their plan to prevent STDs is also warranted.
