In brief: MONTHS TO YEARS

Majority of the time it will take about 6-9 months but it may persist for many years.
Its worse the first year then it may be less severe for the subsequent years. There are some patients even after 10 years post lasik continue to have dry eyes. Risk of dry eyes increases with age.

In brief: May be months

Research has shown that it may take 6-9 months for nerves to reconnect, with any lasik flap.
Prk or epilasik do not cut through these nerves. Dry eye lasts until those nerves reconnect. This is why patients with pre-existing dry eye are not great candidates for lasik.

In brief: Never

This is a symptom that may have other causes unlocked by the surgery.
In fact since the surgery cuts corneal nerves the discomfort should be less. This needs further investigation for treatment modalities to feel better. See your ophthalmologist.

In brief: Dry eye

Dry eye after lasik resolves by 6 months in most patients and by 1 year in almost all patients.
If persistent symptoms occur, punctal plugs and other dry eye therapies are helpful. See your eye doctor.
